FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Haywood County Schools – Two Pending Weather Announcements Haywood County, North Carolina – December 7, 2020 This update is for two different pending weather situations. 1. Several weather models indicate the possibility of snow this evening (Monday, December 7). At this time, accumulation is expected only on the highest northern and western ridges. The Morning Crew will monitor the situation. If an announcement is necessary it will be made by 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8th. If the weather develops more significantly than expected and schools are closed, Tuesday will NOT be a Remote Learning Day. When possible, we like to give students, staff, and parents appropriate prior notice before calling a weather-related Remote Learning Day. 2. Several weather models also indicate an extended period of snow Sunday evening (December 13) into Monday morning (December 14). The Morning Crew will monitor the situation. If an announcement is necessary it will be made by 5:45 a.m. on Monday, December 14th. If this weather event causes schools to close on Monday or subsequent days during the week, these will be designated as Remote Learning Days. Remote Learning Days will be designated on closed winter weather days when we provide students, staff, and parents with appropriate prior notice. Weather-related Remote Learning Days will be Optional Workdays for school employees. These days will operate with front-loaded learning like previous Remote Learning Days. The Morning Crew will monitor pending weather. We will make appropriate announcements using our rapid notification system. If in doubt, please check multiple sources (HCS website, HCS social media, and local media outlets).
