1/9/22

Good Afternoon Jonathan Valley Families,

Welcome back and Happy New Year.  It was so wonderful seeing our students return after the break.

This message contains information about the upcoming holiday and communicating with teachers through Remind, and recent calendar changes for the 21-22 school year.

Monday, January 17th, Haywood County Schools will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

All of Haywood County Schools and our teachers at JVE use Remind as a communication tool.  It is a great way to communicate, however please do not send transportation changes or any information that is time sensitive or urgent through Remind.  Our teachers do not check and respond to Remind throughout the entire school day, because they are teaching their students, and they are asked to have their phones on silent in order to provide the best instruction possible for our JVE Panthers.  Therefore an important message could be missed.  Also, sometimes our teachers are not on campus, maybe at a workshop, or out sick, and they do not receive a message.  We ask that all transportation changes be called in to our front office for us to document on our daily transportation change sheet.  Any time sensitive or urgent messages should also begin with a phone call to the front office.  Also, please make sure your child knows how they are getting home each day, and that it is written in their agenda book.

There have recently been three calendar changes for the remainder of the 21-22 school year.  Friday, March 4th and Friday, April 1st  have been changed to 12:30 dismissals. These have been changed to early dismissals due to a mandatory professional development initiative by North Carolina.  The Science of Reading professional development is happening over a two year span of time – this school year and next school year – and involves a minimum of 56 hours of live virtual training after school from 3:30-6:30 over 16 days, and independent readings and virtual assignments. No extra time was built in for  the elementary teachers to do this training. so, these two early dismissals are an attempt to give them at least a few hours to work on this training.  Friday, January 7, 2022 was designated as a Remote Learning Optional Workday due to inclement weather.  Friday, March 11, 2022 is now designated as a regular in-person learning day for students.  Updated calendars were shared through JVE Remind, your email address connected to this phone alert, and on the HCS website.

Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your afternoon.
