1st Grade Focus for Student Success (Parent/Student/School Compact Title I)

(Revised 6/4/18)

What is a
School-Parent Compact?

A school- parent compact for achievement is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together.  The compact lays out how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all students meet the grade level standards.

Strong Compacts:

*Link to goals of the school improvement plan

*Focus on student learning skills

*Describe how teachers will help students

*Share specific strategies parents can utilize at home

*Explain communication about student progress

Developed Together

The parents, students, and staff of JVES developed this school-parent compact for achievement.  Meetings are held each year to review and revise the compact.

Parents are welcome to contribute comments at any time.

*Providing parents with rainbow words for sight word practice.

*School website provides links for family fun games that help students practice math facts and sight words.

*Addition flash cards for practicing facts at home.

*Family Math night, November 8, 2018 to learn math games.

Family Responsibilities

JVES parents/guardians joined staff to develop ideas about how families can support students’ success in reading and math. Families may have other ideas to add to this list.

*Play phonological awareness games in kit to practice phonics skills.

*Practice a few sight words each day to increase my child’s sight word fluency.

*Utilize the webpages provided to practice math facts and sight words.

*Read daily with my child.

Student Responsibilities

Students thought of the following ideas to make connections between learning at school and home.

*Challenge myself to practice my addition flash cards daily.

*Practice my sight words at home.

*Read my Take Home readers.
