Several classes at Jonathan Valley are participating in the Global Read Aloud (GRA) from October 2-November 10. According to the Global Read Aloud website, “The project was created in 2010 with a simple goal in mind; one book to connect the world. From its humble beginnings, the GRA has grown to make a truly global connection with more than 2,000,000 students having participated.” Last week, participating Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students from all over the globe read the book Possum Magic by Mem Fox. At Jonathan Valley the kindergarten students in Rachel Jones’ and Ruth Sterry’s classes were able to connect via Skype with a Kindergarten class at an International school in Germany. The students were able to introduce themselves and share their favorite foods. The students at both schools were excited to discover that they share many favorite foods. All the students thoroughly enjoyed this activity and the teachers plan to provide more opportunities for these groups of students to connect in the future.
