Re: Class Assignments for 2020-2021
Date: April 9, 2020
It has been a wonderful year at Jonathan Valley Elementary School. Our teamwork, cooperation, and resilience have come through in these uncharted times. Thank you for your cooperation and support this year in ensuring your child’s success.
In wrapping up this year, we are excited to begin making preparations for 2020-2021. Requests for a specific teacher will not be taken this year, however I would like to give you the opportunity to bring to my attention any special circumstance that would require requesting to avoid a teacher. Please be aware that teachers do sometimes move grade levels. Also, at this time 5th grade students have a class with each teacher in 5th grade. Given the high-performing staff we are so fortunate to have at Jonathan Valley, requests to avoid must be well-founded, valid reasons, and must be submitted to me in writing or email by our last day of school, Thursday, June 4. Requests will not be considered after the June 4 deadline.
Our goal at Jonathan Valley is to consider all student data to create well-balanced, heterogeneous classes for next school year. Student data includes all academic and behavioral data. Since many new students enroll over the summer, class lists will be finalized prior to the opening of our new school year. Your child in grades 1-5 will receive a letter communicating the class assignment for 2020-2021. Kindergarten students will have a different enrollment calendar. This information will be shared with our Kindergarten families. A “Meet and Greet” has also been scheduled for the teacher workday on Friday, August 16, from 7:30 – 10:00am. We will have coffee, juice, and light pastries. The first student day of the new school year will be Monday, August 17 and this will be a 12:30 early dismissal day.
If you are aware of kindergarten students who will begin school in the fall, please encourage parents to register students as soon as possible.
