Good Afternoon Jonathan Valley Families:

The following message contains information regarding work packet pick up, Kindergarten registration, and teacher requests for 2020-2021.

Our next scheduled work packet pick up is April 20th from 8:30-1:00.  We have changed how packets will be picked up due to diagnosed COVID19 cases in our county.  Vehicles will pull up just like before, however student work packets will be placed on a table, and the person picking up the work will pull up beside the sidewalk, step out of their vehicle if needed, and get the work off of a table.  This is to limit the number of employees involved in this process and to promote more social distancing. All students in Pre-K through 2nd grade will have a packet to pick up. Students in grades 3-5 will only have a work packet if they do not have a device at home and / or Internet.  Most students in grades 3-5 are participating in online learning through Google classrooms. Please make sure you have signed up for your teacher’s Remind, Class Dojo, or whatever communication app they are using. It is important to keep in touch with our Jonathan Valley families and students, so if we have not heard from you Officer Clancy will be making home visits to check in, and to make sure everyone is OK.

Kindergarten registration is scheduled for May 27th 9:00 AM.  Please plan to join us in the cafeteria for a cup of coffee and important information regarding registering your child for Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year.  Also, please share with any families in the area that may have a child that is Kindergarten age. Teachers are allocated to each school based on the number of students signed up for each class.  The sooner we have our numbers, the sooner we can make final decisions regarding class size and teacher assignments.

It has been a wonderful year at Jonathan Valley Elementary School.  Our teamwork, cooperation, and resilience have come through in these uncharted times during this global pandemic.  Thank you for your cooperation and support this year in ensuring your child’s success.

In getting close to wrapping up this year, we are excited to begin making preparations for 2020-2021.  Requests for a specific teacher will not be taken this year, however I would like to give you the opportunity to bring to my attention any special circumstance that would require requesting to avoid a teacher.  Please be aware that teachers do sometimes move grade levels. Also, at this time 5th grade students have a class with each teacher in 5th grade. Given the high-performing staff we are so fortunate to have at Jonathan Valley, requests to avoid must be well-founded, valid reasons, and must be submitted to me in writing or email by our last day of school, Thursday, June 4Requests will not be considered after the June 4 deadline.  You may email me at jreeves@haywood.k12.nc.us.

The information from this phone call will also be placed in the COVID-19 link on our Jonathan Valley website.
