Good Afternoon Jonathan Valley Families,

I hope you all are enjoying your Summer.  This call has information regarding Jumpstart, the hybrid school reopening plan, and technology.  Information from this call is available on our JVE website.  You may also find more information on the HCS website.

Teachers in first through fifth grade have been in contact with the families of those students selected for the Summer Jumpstart program.  Students were selected and invited using performance data for students on special learning plans as well as students at risk academically prior to March 16, 2020.  If your child has a mask please have them bring it to their scheduled Jumpstart days and times.  If your child does not have a mask, we will have some disposable masks available.  Also, a JVE faculty or staff member will be in the front loop to take student temperatures and conduct a health assessment questionnaire before students enter the school building.  Please have your student remain in the vehicle until we have completed this process.

Haywood County Schools will be reopening under a hybrid version of Plan B.  School will begin on August 17th.  Most students will be on a remote learning plan until September 21st.  Pre-Kindergarten and students with specialized learning plans will have in-person learning opportunities as permitted.  More information will be forthcoming as it is provided.

The reopening process will be monitored and evaluated to determine if it is possible to return to in-person learning for interested students on Monday, September 21st.  At that time the state of NC is in Plan B which would mean 50% capacity of students returning to in person learning if this option is chosen by families on September 21st, and if HCS and state monitoring and evaluation determine it is possible to return to in-person learning.  Remote learning will be available to all students who choose not  to return to school.

More information and details about school will be available in the coming weeks as we receive additional guidance and continue to work together as a district.

Second through fifth graders at Jonathan Valley will be using Chromebooks, and Kindergarten through 1st grade will be using iPads as we begin the school year totally remote. More information regarding a check out and pick plan for technology will be made available before school begins.

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to try to do what is best for our students.
