11/1/20
Good Afternoon Jonathan Valley Families,
This message contains information about report cards, the November 3rd remote learning day, picture day for in person and remote students, and applications for Haywood County Schools Holiday Assistance program.
Report cards for the 1st nine week grading period will be sent home with in person students on November 2nd due to the inclement weather workday yesterday. Remote only students will have directions from their teachers regarding picking up report cards.
November 3rd will be HCS second remote learning day. This is a new state mandate for this school this year. All public schools in NC were instructed to put 5 of these days in their 2020-2021 calendar. What that means is Tuesday, 11/03/2020, students do not physically come to school. However, they have work to do. Teachers will either send home a packet of work or they will send home a device and the student will have digital work. The day counts as a school day for students. As long as a student does the work assigned and turns it in, he/she will be counted present for the day. If the student does not turn in the work, he/she will be counted absent and get zeros for the work not done. Teachers will not be available on this day to answer Remind messages or emails or the phone. Many of them will be taking leave on that day. Please call if you have questions about this.
School pictures for in person students will be on November 12th. A paper copy for ordering will be sent home soon. For now, please see the information posted on our JVE website, sent through Remind, and your email address connected to your Blackboard phone call account.
We are excited to have the family owned and operated company, Strawbridge, to take our pictures at JVE this year. They have provided a link to allow parents to sign up and receive updates via email about their child’s school portraits.
Pictures for our remote only students will be December 1st from 9:00-12:00. Strawbridge will send JVE a sign up link, and our remote only families will be able to schedule a time for your child’s pictures. More information will be sent out at a later date.
Applications for Haywood County Schools Holiday Assistance program are open. Assistance is available to eligible HCS students of any age. Fill out an application online, any time before November 6th at this link:

You may also attend the in-person registration on November 5th at the Education Center in Clyde (next to CHHS) from 2-7PM.
Thank you, and have a great weekend!
