12/20/20

Good Afternoon Jonathan Valley Families,

This message contains information about the recent press release regarding a calendar change when we return from Christmas Break and the make-up / remote picture day being rescheduled, and our final 12 Days of Christmas Spirit Dress Up Days.

The school calendar has changed a bit for when we come back from break. Elementary students were scheduled to return to school (in person or remote depending on your current assignment) on Wednesday, January 6th. This has been changed. Now Wednesday, 1/6, Thursday, 1/7, and Friday, 1/8 will be Remote Learning Days for all students. All students will learn remotely / at home on those three days and the days will count as school days. Please look for communication from your child’s teacher regarding assignments for January 6th through January 8th.  Each grade level will have different plans for these days, such as paper / pencil work, assignments on devices, potential Google Meets, etc…Work assigned must be completed and scheduled Google Meets should be attended for your child to be counted present.

If your student is absent when we send home assignments and / or devices, please contact their teacher about picking these things up.  January 4th is an optional teacher workday, and January 5th is a mandatory teacher workday.

If you requested a hot spot in the Fall, they have arrived, and will be sent home with your child.  If you are still in need of a hot spot, please let your child’s teacher know, and we will add you to the list, but if you were not on the original list we do not know when you might receive a hot spot.  Our ITC department at Central Office is in charge of purchasing and assigning these devices.

All elementary students are scheduled to return to their regular scheduled learning whether they are assigned in person or all remote on Monday, January 11th.

Please see the press release attached to email, Remind, and the JVE website regarding these calendar changes, or visit the HCS website.

Make-up pictures and pictures for remote only learners are cancelled for January 7th due to no students being on campus January 7th for the recent school calendar changes.  We will let you know once this has been rescheduled.

Please join us in dressing up for pajama day on Monday, December 21st and welcoming in 2021 on Tuesday, December 22nd.

Thank you, and have a great evening.

Post Holiday Calendar Adjustment

By admin / December 17, 2020

Following the semester and holiday break, schools will return for blended and in-person learning on Monday, January 11, 2021.  The previous return date for blended and in-person learning was Wednesday, January 6, 2021.  January 6-8 will be remote learning days for all students.  Information about these three remote learning days will be provided by individual schools.

The employee calendar is unchanged.  Monday, January 4, 2021 is an Optional Workday for Staff.  Tuesday, January 5, 2021 is a Mandatory Workday for high school staff making the semester transition.  Teachers and other staff will work on-site on January 6-8 to provide instruction and other essential services.

“This brief student schedule change was made in consultation with local public health and Board members,” said Dr. Bill Nolte, Superintendent.”  “The Thanksgiving COVID-19 surge in cases stretched school staffing capacity at some schools.  Bringing students back to campus on the 11th gives us over two weeks to see the COVID-19 surge related to Christmas.  It will also give us over a week to see the initial impact of COVID-19 from New Year’s activities.”

The school system will not update the COVID-19 Dashboard or send notifications December 23, 2020 through January 3, 2021.  The Dashboard will be retroactively updated with active cases on Monday, January 4, 2021.  Rapid notifications for school-related cases will also resume on Monday, January 4, 2021.

We hope everyone has a safe and restful break.  We look forward to your return.  We will continue to monitor this evolving situation.  We will provide additional notifications as needed.
