Teacher Requests 2021-2022

It has been a wonderful year at Jonathan Valley Elementary School.  Even through the pandemic our teamwork, cooperation, and resilience have come through in these uncharted times.  Thank you for your cooperation and support this year in ensuring your child’s success.  

In wrapping up this year, we are excited to begin making preparations for 2021-2022.  Requests for a specific teacher will not be taken this year, however I would like to give you the opportunity to bring to my attention any special circumstance that would require requesting to avoid a teacher.  Please be aware that teachers do sometimes move grade levels.  Given the high-performing staff we are so fortunate to have at Jonathan Valley, requests to avoid must be well-founded, valid reasons, and must be submitted to me in writing or email by  Friday, May 28th .  Requests will not be considered after the May 28th deadline.  

Our  goal at Jonathan Valley  is to consider all student data to create well-balanced, heterogeneous classes for next school year.  Student data includes all academic and behavioral data.  Since many new students enroll over the summer, class lists will be finalized prior to the opening of our new school year.  Your child in grades 1-5 will receive a letter/ postcard communicating the class assignment for 2021-2022  in August.  Kindergarten students will have a different enrollment calendar.  This information will be shared with our Kindergarten families at a later date.  

The first student day of the new school year will be Monday, August 16th, and this will be a 12:30 early dismissal day.  We will send out information about Open House and / or Teacher Meet and Greet depending on guidance and requirements regarding COVID as we get closer to the 2021-2022 school year.   

Kindergarten registration will take place at JVE on May 12th from 8:15-10:00 and 3:30-6:00.  Please encourage anyone you know with a future 2021-2022 Kindergarten student to join us for the drive-thru style registration.  The number of teachers we are allowed to hire depends on the number of students enrolled in Kindergarten, therefore it is extremely helpful for  new Kindergarten students to register as soon as possible.
