Good Afternoon Jonathan Valley Families,

Congratulations to our 5th grade Spelling Bee team and their coach, Mrs. Mason, for winning the annual, Kiwanis, 5th grade Spelling Bee last night.  Way to go team!

This message has information about  the Reading for Education fundraiser, Veteran’s Day, the CogAT assessment for 3rd graders, make-up pictures, Thanksgiving lunch, and Thanksgiving Break.

Tomorrow, Monday, November 7th, your child will be bringing home a Parent Information Envelope letting you know about a safe and easy way for our school to raise funds for essential reading materials for our students and teachers. We participated in this fundraiser last year, and it was very successful, quick, and easy too.  Our teachers were able to choose books and educational magazines from the gift cards that were purchased, and our school was able to use some of the money raised from this fundraiser for our Panther Pride Student of the Month book vending machine and the books to fill it up too. 

The Reading For Education fundraiser is 100% online so there is NO face-to-face selling, handling money, or delivering products.  Your participation will take less than 12 minutes, and there are exciting prizes to make it fun for the students.

Here is all you need to do to participate:

1. Go to https://www.rfe.net/sid.t?0000024935 to sign up.
2. Send form emails inviting family, friends, and co-workers to support your child.
3. Return the Envelope with the Student Prize Code to school for your child to get their participation prize, a Safari Hugger.

Be sure to ask your child for the Parent Information Envelope tomorrow night. Your participation will make a difference for our school and teachers!

Veteran’s Day will be recognized on November 11th.  There will be no school.  Thank you to all of our Veterans for your service.

The CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Assessment) for 3rd grade students will be November 15 and 16.  A letter explaining this in more detail was sent home with 3rd graders, through Remind, and to the email address you have connected to your MyConnect HCS Subscriber Portal.

Make-up pictures will be Monday, November 21.

We will have our annual, tradition, of Thanksgiving Lunch this year on Tuesday, November 22nd.  We hope you will plan to join us.

Thanksgiving Break will be November 23-25.
