Good Afternoon Jonathan Valley Families,

This phone call has information about attendance, student illness, 

Don’t forget September is School Attendance Awareness Month!  Being on time and regular attendance in the early grades boosts children’s learning, achievement, and motivation.  If your child is absent be sure to send a note, so they will qualify for their attendance prize and be eligible for the gift card drawing at the end of the month.

There have been a few questions about students, illness, and when to stay home or come to school.  Please check pages 17-18 in your child’s agenda book for more details.  The only illness part that wasn’t included in this year’s agenda was a COVID section, due to recommendations that have continued to evolve.  Currently if a student or staff member tests positive for COVID they should stay home from school for 5 days, and follow doctor’s orders.  There is no close contact tracing or quarantining.  

As a parent, you know your child much better than we do. Communication is vital when your child is absent. ALWAYS let the teacher know why your child is absent.  Our teachers worry about kids when they’re not at school, and we don’t want your student to accumulate too many unexcused absences. 

Please make every effort to get your child to school by 7:50 am, because this is when all teachers are in their classrooms, beginning  morning work, and finishing breakfast.  This gives students twenty minutes until the tardy bell rings at 8:10 to unpack, get settled, finish breakfast, and start on morning work.

We will once again begin diligently tracking absences, tardies, and check outs. If you are checking your child in tardy, we ask that you use the Identakid computer and the child takes the yellow slip to their teacher. Then (this part is new) please open the JVE Tardy / Check Out Tracker notebook to the grade level for your child and start a page for him/her. Each time your child is tardy or you check them out, you’ll add it to that page with a date, time, and checkouts.  Our goal is to keep individual student information on one page, so families can see just how much instructional time their child has lost due to being late or checked out.  That being said, please remember that the tardy bell rings at 8:10AM.   Our doors open everyday, even on 2 hour delays at 7:30AM.  

We understand that there are doctor and dentist appointments that can’t be helped as well as cars that don’t start and tires that are flat. That means your child will have a page with just a few entries and not much lost instructional time.
